I came home from a recent conference with several new and exciting additions to my naturopathic toolkit.  Among them is the use of sublingual immunotherapy drops to address both environmental and food allergies.

This is exciting to me because it is an easier method to address environmental allergies than the commonly used allergy shots.  The sub-lingual drops are taken daily at home rather than weekly visits to the doctor for an injection.

This is also exciting in relationship to food allergies as an effective method other than life-long avoidance!  Allergies to foods and environmental factors can show up as sneezing watery itchy eyes, but also chronic sinusitis, eczema, hives, headaches, fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, frequent diarrhea, asthma, and many many more conditions that people are often told can’t be cured but will be managed by medications.

Allergy drops treat the source of the problem, desensitizing the body to troubling allergens so that medications that temporarily address the symptoms are no longer needed.  Yay!
